What does the Error: 'Wrong Vehicle' mean?
What does the Error: 'Wrong Vehicle' mean?
Solution
Error Wrong Vehicle:
If you are attempting to program a vehicle, and you receive the error: "Wrong Vehicle".
This means that the VIN stored on the tuner does not match the VIN of the vehicle.
Solutions:
Scroll down to Device Info, Press Select twice. It will display Tuner Status.
NOTE:
If it does not take you to the Tuner Status Window, and instead kicks you back to the Device Info Screen, Your Firmware is Old and will Need to be Updated to check the status. There is an FAQ section for this.
*Status will either be:
Stat=Stock, Stat=Aftermarket, or Stat=Unused.
*
Stat=Stock - Your tuner is half locked, but fixable. Go the the tech support page, select the Ford Xcalibrator 2 in the first drop down, select Device Update Software in the second drop down and hit Search. Download Liveload 3 by clicking the "Click Here to Download" next to it. Install this application, once installed open it up, plug in the X2. The program asks the X2 to be on the main menu. Program Vehicle is the main menu of the X2s. Press the unlock button within the liveload application. This will change the status to Unused and the tuner will then be ready to tune a new vehicle.
If Stat=Aftermarket - The vehicle is VIN locked, you need to either return the vehicle it is currently locked to back to stock, or you will need to call Tech Support and Get a Return Authorization and pay an Unlocking Fee.
If Stat=Unused - You will not receive this error message.
Other Solutions:
This error may also come up on a 1996, 1997, or 1998 vehicle and using X2 firmware 1.11 or older.
The common steps to cause this error are: You tuned the car, then returned it to stock, and attempted to program the vehicle again. You may then receive a error that states: Wrong Vehicle.
This is caused by the PCMs of these year not writing a VIN # on the stock file, this was a problem with older firmware. To fix it, simply update the firmware.
To Update the Firmware, go to the SCT Tech Support page and click on Device Updates and Downloads
For Drop down 1 select the Ford Xcalibrator 2 - P/N: 9400, For Drop Down 2 Pick the Device Update Software
Click on "Click Here to Download" that is next to the Live Update 2 program.
Install this application, once installed open it up, and plug in the X2.
Before proceeding, go back to the website, Under the Notes section, there is a link that says: "Click Here to Download the Firmware".
Click on this link and save this file to your desktop.
Once saved go back to the LiveUpdate Program, click on browse at the top left.
Browse to the desktop and locate the firmware file you saved, highlight it and click open.
When you get back to the liveupdate screen, click on OK, this will begin to transfer the firmware file and update the X2.
VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT UNPLUG DURING UPDATE
