 How to Update the FW & Tune Rev on X3/SF3/Livewire
Solution This is a step by step guide for updating the fimware and tune revision, everything you need to know is listed below. Follow it step by step, Note: Install the software then check the firmware version on your tuner vs the website. If you already have the latest firmware you do not need to re-update it, you can skip to updating the tune revision if needed.

STEP 1: INSTALL DEVICE UPDATE SOFTWARE

Go to www.sctflash.com/tsupdates.php located by clicking on the Tech Support link at the top of the page.

Scroll to find your SCT device and select it by clicking on the product image, you may use the scroll arrows to navigate through the options.

On some devices you may be required to enter the serial number that appears on the back of your SCT device to be able to continue



Locate the section labeled Device Update Software, should indicate being Version 2.6


Click on the image to download the software. You will have to install the software once downloaded

STEP 2: DOWNLOADING THE FIRMWARE TO YOUR PC<

On the same page you downloaded the Device Updater from you will see the section labeled Programmer Device Firmware. Click on the image to download and save the Firmware.



STEP 3: DOWNLOADING THE TUNE REVISION TO YOUR PC

Same as step 2 only this time locate the section labeled Device Tune Revision. Click on the image to download and save that tune version.



STEP 4: INSTALLING DEVICE DRIVERS

Plug in your SCT Device to your PC via USB, if you own a TSX you will connect the Monitor to the computer. A Found New Hardware Wizard will pop up.

IMPORTANT: If you did not receive a found new hardware wizard, see the How To Manually Install Drivers section or click here:HOW TO MANUALLY INSTALL DRIVERS

It may ask if you'd like for it to search the internet for the drivers, if it does: Click "NO, Not at this time" if it does not, proceed.

Leave the circle in"Install the software automatically (Recommended)" Click Next. Windows will now begin to search for the drivers automatically.

Note: You may receive a screen that says "The software you are installing for this hardware:"SCT USB Driver has not passed Windows......." Click on Continue Anyway.

You will then come to a "Completing the Hardware Update Wizard" screen, Click Finish.


STEP 5: UPDATING THE FIRMWARE ON YOUR DEVICE

Now that the software and drivers are installed, we are ready to update the firmware. The tuner should still be in firmware mode. If not, unplug the X3/SF3/LiveWire and plug it back in while holding down the firmware button.

Note: For the X3/SF3 the Firmware button is the Cancel Button. For the Livewire, the Firmware button is the Jog Wheel.

If you receive a "Failed to Write Bulk Data" message, you will need to manually install the drivers, click here for instructions:HOW TO MANUALLY INSTALL DRIVERS

Open the X3/Livewire Updater Software, there should be a new icon on your desktop. (Yellow, Black, and Orange with the letters X3LW on it)



Once the software is open, Click on UPDATE FIRMWARE.

Now click on Browse, Click on the Desktop Icon on the left (or Navigate to the Location that you saved the Firmware File) You should see a file with the extension LWU. Click on the Firmware File, then Click Open.

A pop up stating that the Vehicle Must be Returned to Stock pops up, Click OK. Then the “DO NOT DISCONNECT THE DEVICE WHILE UPDATING FIRMWARE” screen will display. A pop up window will inform you when the transfer of the Firmware is complete. Press OK and continue with update instructions

You have successfully updated the Firmware on your SCT device. Continue if you would like to update Tune Revision

Next Unplug the Device and Plug it back in Regular Mode without holding down any buttons.

STEP 6: UPDATING THE TUNE REVISION ON YOUR DEVICE

Now that the tuner is plugged in regular mode, Press TRANSFER FILE TO DEVICE

Clicking on the Transfer File Button will allow you to click on the Browse button. Click on the Desktop Icon on the left (or Navigate to the Location that you saved the Firmware File)

You should see a file with the extension .LFU, Click on the Tune Revision File, then Click Open.

A pop up will come up indicating when the Tune Revision Transfer was complete, this process may take up some time. Press OK

UPDATING THE FIRMWARE AND TUNE REVISION ON X3/SF3/LIVEWIRE IS NOW COMPLETE. YOU MAY NOW DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE FROM THE PC AND FLASH YOUR VEHICLE.

This the best instructions that SCT has put out.You DID NOT leave out any small details in your step by step directions, which are so important too many of us for our success in using your products.I sincerly hope you will put this kind of effort into rewriting your service manuel and all of your other instructions.REMEMBER,don't take for granted that we're at your level.

Very helpful, but, I already had the correct firmware and it is unclear as if I had to reinstall the firmware or I could just go straight to the tune rev. Thanks, I love my LIVEWIE!!

I agree with everything Mr. Kirby and Mr. Moran has to say. This needs to be in the updated manuals, and, it needs to be more clear about, "Do I need to update?". I do, however think, that the majority of my woe's were due to running Vista. After following the FAQ on Vista, all systems are a GO! Thanks Guys!!!!
